Patient question:

As an audiologist I frequently get asked questions and I’d like to share the questions and answers in the hopes it touches on subjects you have been wondering about.

I was recently asked:

“I lost one of my hearing aids when I pulled off my mask, is there anything I can do so it doesn’t happen again?  “

Answer:

Covid has definitely made many things more difficult including wearing hearing aids.  There are a few things you can do to reduce the chance of losing your hearing aids from behind your ears. A couple items I have found useful are a device called “ear savers”, they are a plastic band that attaches behind your neck to hold the loops of your mask. By using this it takes the loops off your ears thereby reducing the chance of them falling off when you remove your mask. In addition, its comfortable because you no longer have the pressure of the loops on your ears.

A second device I have found helpful is the use of eye glass ropes/chain. These ropes can be attached to the behind the ear hearing aids by putting the small loop of the rope around the wire of the hearing aid. Both of these devices can save a dropped aid and a costly replacement and only cost a few dollars.

I have attached a link to these sites for your convenience.
